Top 20 Most Violent And Gory Manhwa/Webtoons [Disturbing]

Many of us are fascinated by violence and gore because stories and scenes depicting them seem to be so far away from the mundanity of our everyday lives. We stare in wonder as serial killers chop off their victims into different parts and violent characters indulge in savage fights, leaving their opponents bleeding on the floor with fewer teeth in their mouths and disconnected broken bones. Manhwa and webtoon authors don’t shy away from depicting these gruesome scenes and mentally unstable psychopaths in their work, so after having explored the ‘Violent and Gory’ genre in both anime and manga, it is only befitting to now turn to Korean comics. Enjoy this list of manhwa drenched in blood.

비질란테

It is no secret that the laws governing our daily lives are flawed. Criminals can sometimes easily get away with short sentences or completely evade the police. And so, while following the career path of a police officer, Kim Ji Yong decides to take matter into his own hands, not hesitating to completely annihilate criminals by whatever means necessary, involving plenty of extreme violence and gore in the process.

This story also offers an interesting perspective and plenty of points made surrounding the judicial system and does a great job at portraying the character growth of a 'good' psychopath.

3.Dark Hole: Another Survivor

 다크홀 : 또 다른 생존자

The initial premise of this manhwa follows the same as that of 'The Walking Dead': the main protagonist wakes up in the hospital with no idea of what is going on in the world; as he ventures outside, he realizes that the apocalypse has occurred in the form of a zombie outbreak. From there, the manhwa diverges into something more original as people turn into zombies due to the inhalation of a mysterious black smoke, and the protagonist, instead of surviving, accidentally inhales it in the first chapters.

Apart from being chronically dry, Bonggang Choi's eyes have an unusual feature: they are able to read minds by capturing the most predominant thoughts of the individuals they perceive. Choi prefers to lead an ordinary life, not paying much attention to his powers, but one day he comes across Hun Jo, an intimidating student at his school, whose entire body is resonating with sentences surrounding one word: 'Kill.' 9.Weak Hero

약한영웅 - Yakhan Yeong-ung

When I first started reading manhwa, I was appalled by the sheer brutality that school bullies seem to have, but apparently, bullying in South Korea is as intense as it gets - which is not surprising considering the number of webtoons authors creating content on this topic. 'Weak Hero' follows the journey of Gray, a small-in-stature student that looks like a perfectly frail victim but actually holds the calculative mind and unparalleled skills of a savage fighter. He moves into a school run by tyrants and decides to reestablish its rules by engaging in extremely ferocious fight scenes that don't shy away from puncturing eyes, breaking skulls, and turning noses into blood-propelling pumps.

This interesting bug-take on the apocalypse is full of adrenaline-pumping scenes, flame-throwers, AK-47s, extremely disgusting and blood-thirsty insects, and slimy substances, as well as the good old 'I need to find my family' tale that is sure to leave you both entertained and throwing up in your mouth from sheer disgust.

11.Redrum 327

레드럼 327

Redrum 327 is the Korean horror equivalent of Hollywood horror movies and books: a group of friends plan a visit to an isolated chalet, find themselves trapped, and their getaway plans of a good time and fun turn into a bloody massacre and carnage that gives way to plenty of scary and very questionable character reactions.

Unhinged is a tale of murder, violence, and revenge involving a woman named Erika, who came home after work only to find that her husband had been brutally murdered. After being falsely accused of being his killer and incarcerated for almost a decade, Erika is released into the world with the unshakable intent to disregard any shackles of morality and pursue the people that killed her husband, framed her, and put her in jail. While the art in this manhwa is very simple, it is impressively expressive and graphic, tainting the screen with the crimson colors of blood and remnants of intestines.

13.#Killstagram

살人스타그램

As the age of social media bled into the early 2000s, forever tainting our lives with likes and the need to 'appear' and not 'be,' a repercussion of that new world of fantasy became that of the ability of stalkers to facilitate their operations. While this sentence seems like the beginning of a well-thought-out essay on social media, it's actually the premise of #Killstagram: an individual particularly obsessed with an influencer is willing to go to any depths to ensure she does not belong to anyone other than him - especially if it involves violence and the decapitation of bodies.

14.dead life

데드라이프

Dead Life is another interesting zombie manhwa chronologically taking place at the very beginning of an outbreak. Unlike other main protagonists of the genre, Seong-hun gets bitten early on in the game and transforms into a zombie as blood-thirsty as any and itching for a lovely little human to devour. But despite his transformation, he is not mindless and very much still remembers who he is, who he likes, and who his friends are, but his sense of 'self' seems to immediately get taken over by the urge to kill whenever he gets a whiff of the smell of blood.

As the cursor changes to a sword, he becomes curious and decides to 'click' on it and finds himself engaged in a brutal fight where he immerges as the victor. Embolden by his newfound confidence and skills, he decides to follow the cursor's instructions, regardless of its intent or the places it will lead him to.

18.A Post-Apocalyptic Journey

末日危途

A post-apocalyptic journey pretty much englobes both the title and plot of this dark manhua. Here, the world has turned into a wasteland full of dust, deprived of anything that could give way to joy or hope - which is probably going to be our world in a couple of years, seeing how we treat our planet and the current state of our political affairs 🥴. In that world, savagery and brutality are laws, and a smuggler trying his best to survive is more than willing to abide by them.

19.Killing Stalking

킬링 스토킹

We've all watched movies or played games that began with warning tags or the good old 'Parental Advisory Explicit Content' label. Well, think about all the different kinds of 'violent' terms you can find in your head and assume that this dark and twisted manhwa has them. So, if you're a sensitive soul and you've somehow ended up here, do not, under any circumstance, read 'Killing Stalking.' The story follows the toxic and aggressive erm.. love?? blossoming between Yoon Bum, a mentally unstable man, and Oh Sangwoo, a sociopathic and violent kidnaper. Mental torture, physical mutilation and manipulation, and plenty of abuse are in this one, but I'm still including it in this list because it's incredibly popular, and I love conforming to societal expectations.

20.Dead days

데드데이즈

Dead Days is an apocalypse manhwa with a refreshing take on the zombie genre. The plot follows characters with unique backgrounds as they try to deal with the outbreak while confined in an apartment complex: the main protagonist is locked in his room while his mother, who turned into a zombie, keeps on scratching at his locked door. Trapped in four walls, he has no means to escape, and his only companion is a girl living in the building facing his. While the story and social commentaries are engrossing on their own, fans of gore will probably enjoy the art the most: it is gorgeous and meticulous, and the author seems to have figured out how to depict the perfect consistency and color of blood.
