+INGREDIENTS

Ingredients of the COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence: Snail Secretion Filtrate, Betaine (Moisturizer/Humectant), Butylene Glycol (Viscosity Controlling + Emollient + Emulsion Stabilising + Absorbent/Mattifier), 1,2-Hexanediol (Solvent), Sodium Polyacrylate (Viscosity Controlling + Emollient + Emulsion Stabilising + Absorbent/Mattifier), Phenoxyethanol (Preservative) Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin, Ethyl Hexanediol (Solvent), Carbomer (Viscosity Controlling + Emulsion Stabilising), Panthenol, Arginine

🐌In-Depth Details Of Interesting Ingredients:

Snail Secretion Filtrate: Antioxidant + Wound healing (promotes extracellular matrix assembly and inhibits metalloproteinases production (their overproduction is directly linked to chronic wounds and the formation of scars))

Sodium Hyaluronate: Hydrating (water-binding properties) + Wound healing (promotes microcirculation)

Allantoin: Moisturizing (Emollient: provides a layer of protection to help prevent water loss)

Panthenol: Moisturizing (penetrates deep into the layers and gets converted into Pantothenic Acid (B5)) + Anti Acne (B5) + Wound healing (B5)

Arginine: Antioxidant + Hydrating (acts as a humectant (chemical structure attracts and entraps water molecules)) + Anti-aging (increases collagen production through different pathways)

+what does the COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence do?

Claims are taken from the product page of Cosrx.

  1. Revitalizes for healthy-looking skin: Snail Secretion Filtrate has the highest concentration in this product's formula. It's known for its nice antioxidative and wound-healing properties, and here, it's followed by moisturizing and hydrating ingredients. All these properties are reflected in how my skin looked and felt during the testing period: bright, bouncy, and fully hydrated.

  2. Protects the skin from moisture loss while keeping the skin texture smooth and healthy: I don’t feel like the moisturizing properties of the COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence are high enough for such a statement since it can’t replace an actual moisturizer if you have dry skin or if you live in a dry climate. As for texture issues, this is not an exfoliating product, so it won’t help with that unless you have texture because your skin is irritated - if that’s the case, this essence is fairly soothing, so it might help.

  3. Brings a natural glow to the skin without any residue: Yes, this is 100% valid, my skin is glowing from the moment I wake up to when I go to sleep, and it's not sticky because the essence gets fully absorbed.

  4. It is highly effective for hydrating and soothing damaged skin: As I mentioned above, the ingredients are predominantly hydrating ones, and my skin felt very hydrated while I was using this product. As for soothing damaged skin, I got a sunburn while I was using this, and it really managed to lessen the redness and shedding of my skin, so definitely.

[REVIEW] COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence Before and after

I feel like popular media has invented a sort of narrative where snail secretion (mucin) is an excellent ingredient for brightening up the skin and diminishing hyperpigmentation, but I don’t think that’s actually the case:

Snail secretion is predominantly wound-healing, so if you have acne scars (which are the equivalent of wounds), it makes the healing process faster and more efficient and minimizes the scar left behind. If you have sunburnt skin (which, again, is the equivalent of a wound), it will also contribute to the healing process. But, if you have hyperpigmentation issues because you’re prone to it or because of old scars that are no longer considered ‘active’ wounds, snail secretion or the COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence isn’t going to make them go away.

You can clearly see from the before and after pictures that my hyperpigmentation is the same, but the scarring/bumps of fresh wounds are fully healed. My fine lines are also plumper because this essence is a great hydrator.

Recommendations based on skin type and concerns:

  • 🩹Skin with hyperpigmentation or scars: Unless you have active scars that need wound-healing, this essence is pretty much useless when it comes to hyperpigmentation. Check out the Some By Mi Galactomyces Pure Vitamin C Glow Serum which is still the best brightening product I’ve ever tried.

  • Skin with texture issues (bumpy skin): This essence won’t solve your texture issues (unless they are due to irritations). Check out a good exfoliator instead: Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow PHA+BHA Pore-Tight Toner.

  • 🧠Mature skin types: This is an okay product for your skin type but don’t expect anything miraculous.

  • 🏜️Dry skin types: This is definitely not moisturizing enough for you on its own but is easily layerable with an actual moisturizer.

  • ⛰️Acne skin types: Good because it will lessen the depth of your acne scarring, but it won’t fight active acne or limit new acne formation. Check out this post for product recommendations for acne: [10] Anti-Acne products that actually work + A Skincare routine. And this toner for limiting acne formation.

  • 👉👈Sensitive skin types: Great, it has minimal ingredients and very low chances of irritating you.

  • 😬Normal skin types: Great product. Even if you don’t have any concerns, it will maintain the overall health of your skin and will enhance its glow.

  • ☯️Combination skin types: Great hydrating and wound-healing product.

  • 🛢️Oily skin types: This is a great hydrating product if you’re looking for one. It gets fully absorbed by the skin (as long as you’re not piling it on) and won’t leave you with any feelings of tackiness or stickiness.

[REVIEW] COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence

+BENEFITS:

  1. Heals active wounds very efficiently (sunburn + acne scars)

  2. Good hydrator

  3. Great price/quality/quantity ratio

  4. Plumps up fine lines

  5. No nonsense ingredients (essential oils, fragrance)

  6. Can be used on any skin type

  7. Gets absorbed very fast

  8. Leaves skin glowing

-CONS:

  1. Not a good moisturizer

🐌🐌🐌🐌Score: 4.0/5 ——— This is a good hydrating product with potent wound-healing properties that will enhance and maintain healthy skin, it doesn’t get a full score because the claim really focused on the ‘moisturizing’ properties of this essence, but I think they are weak.
