+INGREDIENTS

Ingredients: Water/Aqua/Eau, Rosa Damascena Flower Water, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate (Emulsifying + Surfactant/Cleansing), Propanediol (Solvent + Moisturizer/Humectant), Isohexadecane (Emollient + Solvent), Poloxamer 184 (Surfactant/Cleansing + Emulsifying), Acrylamide/Sodium Acryloyldimethyltaurate Copolymer (Viscosity Controlling + Emulsion Stabilising), Xylitylglucoside (Moisturizer/Humectant), Betaine (Moisturizer/Humectant), Allantoin, Glycerin, Panthenol, ♦️Symphytum Officinale Root Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Anhydroxylitol (Moisturizer/Humectant), Polysorbate 80 (Emulsifying + Surfactant/Cleansing), Xylitol (Moisturizer/Humectant), Ammonium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate (Viscosity Controlling + Emulsion Stabilising), Isopropyl Myristate (Emollient + Perfuming), Benzoic Acid (Preservative), Ethylhexylglycerin (Preservative), Sodium Hydroxide (Buffering)

🍼In-Depth Details Of Interesting Ingredients:

Rosa Damascena Flower Water: Antioxidant + Anti-inflammatory (both properties are thanks to flavonoids, tannins, saponin, and triterpenoids present in the water extract)

Allantoin: Moisturizing ( Emollient: provides a layer of protection to help prevent water loss)

Glycerine: Widely used as a quality Hydrator (occurs naturally in skin, and its chemical structure attracts water). You can find this ingredient in most good skin-replenishing products.

Panthenol: Moisturizing (penetrates deep into the layers and gets converted into Pantothenic Acid (B5)) + Anti Acne (B5) + Wound healing (B5)

Symphytum Officinale Root Extract: Antioxidant + Moisturizing (Contains Allantoin) + Anti-inflammatory + ♦️ Studies show that the roots and leaves contain substances that have the potential to irritate and sensitize the skin, but depending on the treatment of the extract, these substances might not be present in the final product formulation (Data from Symphytum Species: A Comprehensive Review on Chemical Composition, Food Applications, and Phytopharmacology).

Sodium Hyaluronate: Hydrating (water-binding properties) + Wound healing (promotes microcirculation)

+HOW TO USE THE Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser

[REVIEW] Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser Texture

To start your day—massage 1-2 pumps onto wet skin (keep it in the shower!) and rinse.

To remove makeup*—on dry skin, gently and thoroughly massage 2-3 pumps directly onto the eye area to melt away mascara; add water, massage over the rest of your face, and rinse.

WHAT DOES THE Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser DO?

Claims from the Glossier product page.

1. It's formulated with five skin conditioners that leave your skin feeling baby soft. The "milky" phase conditions skin to keep it fresh, happy, and moisturized. The "jelly" phase works to dissolve oil, dirt, and makeup: This is one of the most gentle yet effective cleansers I've ever used (when it comes to dirty skin, not makeup). The Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser has the same consistency as the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser (albeit bouncier), which provides the same sort of soft-blanket feeling to my face due to its almost moisturizer-like texture. It also manages to get rid of all the dirt and extra oil on my face while leaving my skin hydrated, plump, and soft. However, it doesn't do a good job with makeup, as you can see from the before and after picture below, so you'll need to use a makeup remover before it.

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser (Before and After) 1

2.It’s gentle enough to use daily, twice a day, or more: Euh, I wouldn’t go that far. The most damaging part of any skincare routine is cleansing. Although this is a gentle cleanser, don’t go crazy. If your skin needs hydration or moisture, use a hydrator or a moisturizer.

3.Our creamy gel face wash that's kind to every skin type under the sun: I have combination acne-prone skin, and this cleanser was effective enough to get rid of the extra oils in my T-zone area and gentle enough to not strip my dryer areas of their moisture. It also did not trigger any breakouts after a few weeks of use, and as you can see from the below before and after picture, it also didn't flush my skin or irritate it after washes. With that being said, as I mentioned in the above in-depth ingredients list, there are a couple of ingredients (Symphytum Officinale Root Extract and Rosa Damascena Flower Water) that might be sensitizing depending on their sourcing, processing, and incorporation into the formula. So people with sensitive skins might react badly to the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser.

4.A pH-balanced daily cleanser with five skin conditioners that won’t leave your skin irritated or feeling tight. Is formulated with pH of 5.0-6.0 (pH may vary by batch):

Here’s an excerpt from ‘‘ALL ABOUT CLEANSING & HOW TO CHOOSE A GENTLE CLEANSER’’ by Michelle from Lab Muffin blog: ‘‘Skin is acidic, meaning it has a low pH (around 5). This is important because a lot of the biochemical reactions that occur in the Skin only work within a narrow pH range. Surfactant-containing cleansers are particularly good at changing skin pH for long amounts of time, meaning that if your cleanser has a particularly high pH, then it’s going to hinder your Skin from repairing itself. High pH also makes Skin swell and reduces its flexibility.’’ So, the bottom line is, pH is important. That being said, most tap water pH lies around the 6.5 or 9.5 margin depending on where you live, so even if you apply a pH appropriate cleanser to your face, you might end up washing it off with non-appropriate pH water. I guess for products to truly take all of this into consideration, they should formulate a product whose pH, when mixed with water, would be around 5.

I always copy and paste this paragraph in my reviews when it comes to pH. If you care about pH, congratulations, this is an appropriate-pH-product.

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser (Before and After) 2

If you wear mascara, chances are you've felt that sting they're talking about when removing it. I'm happy to report that the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser does not sting, but it also doesn't really dissolve mascara, lol. I wake up with a smudgy dark layer under my eyes whenever I use this the night prior, so stick to your oil or micellar water of choice (mine is the Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution). Now, as for the bit about Poloxamer, while it is "a surfactant that inhibits protein and debris from attaching to the lens surface," there is also another cleansing agent in the formulation, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, which is not used in contact lens solutions and is also present in higher concentration than Poloxamer in this formula. So yea, cool marketing sentence, but like no. Conclusion? Regardless of contact solutions, this product hasn't irritated my eye area.

I really liked using this cleanser. I think it’s a great product if you want to keep a happy and healthy skin barrier as it has really low chances of over-stripping it from its natural oil and moisture. It’s gentle yet effective enough to do the job, and I don’t have much to complain about as someone who rarely wears makeup.

I’d recommend this product if you don’t mind double cleansing or if you don’t really wear makeup. People with normal, combination, and oily skin will benefit the most from it. People with sensitive skins stick to something more friendly like the Krave Beauty Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser or the Pyunkang Yul Low pH Pore Deep Cleansing Foam. People with more mature skin would like this but if you want something more anti-aging, try investing in an exfoliating cleanser you could alternate with. For people with acne-prone skin, if you don’t have active acne, you should, in theory, be okay. If you have active acne, I recommend you use something more sensitive-skin friendly like the ones mentioned above.

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser

+BENEFITS:

  1. Leaves skin feeling supple

  2. Appropriate pH

  3. Nice soft texture

  4. Mild and gentle enough for most skin types

  5. Gets rid of dirt and excess oil without stripping skin of needed moisture

  6. Your face is left without a dire need to follow up with a hydrator or moisturizer

-CONS:

  1. Not suitable for all skin types (Potentially sensitizing ingredients for very sensitive skins)

  2. Doesn’t work well on makeup

🍼🍼🍼Score: --- 3.5/5 I really enjoyed this cleanser as I feel like it’s great for my everyday routine and skin type (combination, acne-prone). It would have gotten a fuller score if it were more potent at removing makeup and if it didn’t include potentially sensitizing ingredients.
