[REVIEW] Pyunkang Yul Acne Spot Cream (Before and After)

giphy (12).gif

I had severe acne for about three years on and off due to hormonal problems. Thankfully, these days are hopefully behind me, but I still get bumps/ a bit of acne on my forehead (I discuss why below in the product claims). Usually, I apply some type of prescribed acne cream in that area, but these tend to be very drying and make my face peel. It’s summer right now where I live and I tend to tan easily and I don’t want to have a forehead that’s whiter than the rest of my body (understandably) so I stopped applying these and my forehead, although not on fire, has gotten quite the texture and occasional red spots. This is where the Pyunkang Yul Acne Spot Cream comes into play, I was browsing for a spot cream (as I often do), and found this one that costs just 10.9$, which wasn’t going to damage my bank account, so I decided to test it out, and I regret nothing.

🍃In-Depth Details Of Interesting Ingredients:

Niacinamide: Anti-aging (promotes collagen production and Ceramides synthesis) + Antioxidant (Against UV-induced photocarcinogenesis and photoimmunesuppression) + Anti-inflammatory ( reductions in total sebaceous creation of lipids, overproduction being one of the causes of acne)

Madecassoside: Derivative of Centella asiatica. Acts as an Antioxidant

Asiaticoside: Derivative of Centella asiatica. Wound healing (promotes cell migration to healing site, and enhances skin cell adhesion)

Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate: Prevents hyper-pigmentation (Inhibits Melanin forming activity of Tyrosinase) + Help preserve hyaluronic acid content in skin

Salix Alba Bark Extract: Anti-acne (salicylic acid precursor) + Wound healing ( Polyphenols, flavonoids and tannins)

Forsythia Suspensa Fruit Extract: Very little research to back up any solid claims but general consensu points in the direction of it acting as an antioxidant and a potential allergic relieving substance.

Centella Asiatica Extract : Wound healing (promotes collagen production) + hypertrophic scar healing properties in particular

Polygonum Cuspidatum Root Extract (Japanese Knotweed): Prevents hyper-pigmentation (Inhibits Melanin forming activity of Tyrosinase) + Antimicrobial ( inhibits bacterial and fungi proliferation) + Antioxidant (Resveratrol BT) + Anti-inflammatory (Resveratrol BT)

Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract: Antioxidant (Flavonoids baicalein, Oroxylin A, and Wogonin) + Anti-inflammatory (Inhibits substances and growth factor related to macrophage proliferation) + Antimicrobial (flavonoids and phenolic acids) + Prevents hyper-pigmentation (Inhibits Melanin forming activity of Tyrosinase)

Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract (Green tea): Antioxidant (Polyphenol) + Anti-inflammatory (Polyphenol) + Antimicrobial (Catechins)

Glycyrrhiza Uralensis (Licorice) root extract : Antioxidant (isoflavans and isoflavone) + Anti-inflammatory (Glycyrrhizin activity is similar to cortisol and steroids) + Prevents hyper-pigmentation (Inhibits Melanin forming activity of Tyrosinase)

Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract: Anti-inflammatory (Terpenes/Flavonoids/α-bisabolol  inhibit inflammatory pathway) + Wound Healing (

Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract: Anti-inflammatory (Rosmarinic acid, carnosic acid, and carnosol, exhibit anti-inflammatory activities in particular acne-causing pathogens response) + Antioxidant (Rosmarinic acid and caffeic acid)

Copper Tripeptide-1: Wound healing (Copper tripeptide-1 is naturally released by the body to signal repair processes to begin/ increases collagen synthesis/ increases cell migration to affected area) + Antioxidant (antioxidant systems in our body is naturally induced by Copper tripeptide-1) + Anti-microbial

Myrtus Communis Extract: Has been clinically (clinical trial) proven to decrease acne and antibacterial activity.

Tropaeolum Majus Extract (Nasturtium): Antioxidant (Polyphenols, terpenes, Vitamins E and C) + Antibacterial + Anti-inflammatory (Polyphenols and terpenes)

+how to use the Pyunkang Yul Acne Spot Cream

1.Squeeze a small quantity of cream on your hand

2.Apply it onto the affected spot

3.Then lightly tap the skin.

+BE GENEROUS IN YOUR APPLICATION, LESS DOES NOT MEAN MORE WITH THIS PRODUCT, the more you apply, the more efficient it is.

*The texture is very creamy, light, and not drying in any way - in fact a lot of the ingredients are actually moisturizing (and really good ones too) which explains the consistency and feeling of the cream

+what does the Pyunkang Yul Acne Spot Cream do?

1.Rapid alleviation of acne within 12 hours: This claim solely depends on the type of acne/zit you’re treating. As you can see from the below pictures (besides the fact that I strongly need to trim my eyebrows), I had one big red spot that got almost completely alleviated within the night (I slept around 8 hours then) and was completely gone on the third day (not shown here). For spots like that, which characterize themselves by a bump that you feel can’t be ‘‘popped yet’’ if you apply force, I think that this claim is true, it probably will vary, I mean 12 hours is quite an exact amount of time and I do wonder where they got it from, but I think it’s safe to say that with that type of spots the cream will probably work very rapidly and effectively as to diminish the bump. Now, let’s address my main concern, which are the tiny bumps that usually appear all over your forehead and can’t really be characterized as ‘‘acne’’, and the tiny zits that accompany them (as seen on the picture). These bumps are due to a combination of different thing, in my particular case, they are caused by my diet (my stomach is a sensitive soul), stress, and a general overproduction of sebum in the area that I can’t really control because most hydrating/moisturizing/nourishing products I apply there also clog my pores. This type of acne either completely disappeared or almost completely on the 3rd day, but on the second day, some of it actually got worse (notably the one that was initially ready to be ‘‘popped’’ sort of burst down open with some puss (yes this deserves an ‘‘ew’’ but it’s the reality of skin). So yes, the Pyunkang Yul Acne Spot Cream does rapidly alleviate acne but not necessarily within 12 hours.

2.Skin regeneration and minimizes pores: A lot of the ingredients used in this formulation have very good wound healing properties and interact with skin regeneration pathways to promote them. Furthermore, I’m someone that personally scars very easily, yes, I have gotten rid of my acne, but it has left me with lots of scars and pigmentation issues, and this continues to happen every time I have a zit, even if I leave it alone. This cream’s formulation takes into consideration the fact that acne usually causes scars and a lot of ingredients on this list fight against this. I would have usually scared from the small acne puss showed below but, as you can see, I did not. As for this cream ‘‘minimizing pores’’, it obviously does not, the intention of this claim (if you see the full paragraph on it via this link), is that it ‘‘helps recover wounded pores’’, which it obviously does do. But it won’t in any way minimized your actual normal and natural pores.

3.Antibacterial effects and sebum control: Again, a lot of the ingredients used in this formulation have very good antibacterial effects (antimicrobial to be more precise as they also have anti fungi effects (which also causes acne)). In a lot of cases, it has been clinically proven that these ingredients work, and they obviously yield a result in real life too. As for sebum control, that’s the only thing I’m going to disagree with is sebum control. This cream contains silica which is derived from minerals and has a high absorption capacity for sebum. Silica does not interfere with the production of sebum, it just absorbs it before the sebum can ‘‘reach’’ the outer layers of your skin and makes it oily (which makes it more acne-prone as bacterial and fungal growth prefer this kind of environment). Essentially, you could say that silica is anti-acne in a way, but it does not control your sebum, it simply offers a quick solution to a problem that you should preferably tackle from the root.

The pictures pretty much speak for themselves so I won’t add in any blablabla. But, again as always, it’s important to note the following: this is basically an acne spot product. I can’t say for sure, but I don’t feel like this would work against extremely inflammatory red cystic acne, but that feeling simply stems from my past experience using the products that are ‘‘spot’’ targeted. You could try it out since it’s affordable, but I wouldn’t bet my hopes and dreams on it. That being said, for its intended use as a spot treatment, the Pyunkang Yul Acne Spot Cream is pretty much a win. You obviously don’t need it if you don’t have acne or these small bumps, but if you do, I strongly recommend trying it out,

+benefits:

  1. Works quickly and efficiently

  2. Doesn’t dry out the skin ( While products like it usually do)

  3. Light, so can be applied even during the day

  4. Affordable

-CONS:

  1. None

🍃🍃🍃🍃 Score: 4.5/5 --- This cream really works well and I have 0 complaints about it. I will probably keep on repurchasing it as it’s affordable and works efficiently. But it won’t get a perfect score because I feel that including ‘‘sebum control’’ in its claims is misleading, especially in the way they explain it in the paragraph (via this link).
