🍑Hmmm Ingredient:
BHT: (Antioxidant + Preservative) There is some contradicting research on this ingredient. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review expert panel has assessed this ingredient to be safe when used in cosmetic products. Some research shows that oral intake of high doses of BHT could lead to either cancer or significant lung/liver/kidney damage, while other research could not reproduce the same data. BHT used in cosmetic formulation is very low in concentration, so the general consensus is that it is safe. But since this is a lip product and it can get ingested, I still thought I’d mention the history of this ingredient here for you to make a conscious decision. I personally think its present in low enough concentration to not cause any harm, after all, a lot of ingredients present in too high of concentrations are really bad for the body (you can die from water), so as long as the safety guidelines are being respected, fear is not found. Final Report on the Safety Assessment of BHT.
+how to use the LANEIGE Lip Glowy Balm
+what does the LANEIGE Lip Glowy Balm do?
Claims from the Laneige website.
1.Daily moisture care. Moisturized lip expression by instantly soothing dead skin cells as if having coated the lips with a breathing moisture film: Although this lip product is perhaps a tad more moisturizing than other of its kind, I would not qualify it as something that provides ‘daily moisture care’. If your lips are chapped, this will cover them with a layer that will make them look less damaged, but when you remove the layer, they will still be chapped. In comparison to the LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask that moisturizes, hydrates and nourished the heck out of your lips, the Lip Glowy Balm is just a really nice gloss with barely-there moisturizing properties.
2.Closely wrapping lip fitting. Non-stuffy lip makeup as if having coated the lips with a thin, clear film that does not hamper lip makeup color expression: Yes! I’ve tried a lot of glossy lip products in the past, and this is definitely one of the thinnest most comfortable products I’ve put on. Although it’s very glossy and noticeable, it’s barely sticky (as non-sticky as gloss can get) and stays put exactly where you’ve applied it. They got the consistency just right.
3.Revitalized, voluminous look: This makes your lips look revitalized because it covers your lines and crust, and it makes them look voluminous because of the shine and reflection of the gloss, but again, this won’t treat your lips.
I bought this thinking that it was the Lip sleeping mask in tube form, and after using it a couple of times, I was initially disappointed because the consistency and results were not the same. The lip sleeping mask is a treatment product that hydrates and nourishes your lips overnight: you’re left with more subtle, healthier lips. This lip glowy balm is marketed on Laneige’s website as ‘‘Perfect for providing winter lip care for lips with dead skin cell problem and which do not accept matte lipstick well!’’, but I disagree, this is not a treatment product, I wouldn’t even call this a balm, only a slightly moisturizing gloss. I do agree that it’s better to use this gloss rather than other matte lipsticks, especially in the winter, but I still end up using balms under this product. It won’t dry out your lips, nor irritate them, chances are it might even make them a tiny bit healthier than they were since the barrier is occlusive, but don’t put this on your mouth with the intention of using it as a lip balm if you have really dry and chapped lips.
I’m a big fan of glosses, and this is probably one of my favorite ones. I always get compliments whenever I use it, and my roommate has defined it as the prettiest gloss she’s ever seen or used. It’s the perfect shine, the perfect smell, the perfect non-sticky texture, even the applicator is great. Your lips instantly look juicy and healthy. But the color is barely there, so you should definitely use a tint under it if you’re looking for color. The whole point is, yes, I would recommend this product to anyone who likes good quality glosses, but if you’re looking for a hydrating, moisturizing lip treatment, this (although more hydrating and moisturizing than other glosses) isn’t it, you’re better off buying the LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask or any other drugstore lip balm treatments. Use this as a makeup product: it gives the illusion of your lips looking better, just like a foundation would give the illusion of your skin looking better, and while it does contain some hydrating and moisturizing ingredients, they are too low in concentration, and the consistency of the product doesn’t allow for their penetration.
+BENEFITS:
Leaves lips looking very juicy
Good quality applicator
More hydrating than other glosses
Barely sticky
The product stays put (unlike other glosses that seem to migrate to random areas of your mouth)
-CONS
Marketed as a hydrating and moisturizing balm: it’s not.
🍐Score: 4.5/5 as a makeup product, would have gotten a full score if it was more pigmented. 1/5 as a Skincare product
