🌀In-Depth Details Of Interesting Ingredients:

Astragalus Membranaceus (Huang Qi) Extract: Photoprotective: Inhibits aging pathways that are usually activated by UVB irradiation on the skin and usually lead to skin inflammation and photo-aging. For example, it stimulated the collagen synthesis pathway that would have otherwise been inhibited by UVB +Anti-aging ( Promotes DNA repair pathways and elongation of shortened telomeres (shortening is strongly associated with aging)) + Wound Healing (Suppresses inflammation pathway and stimulates cell growth) *not many research on topical benefits

Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter: Moisturizer + Anti-aging (Vitamin A) +Anti-fungal + Anti-inflammatory + Wound healing (Boosts collagen production and promotes cell regeneration)

Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil: Very good Emollient (Oleic acid + Palmitoleic acid)

Sodium Hyaluronate: Hydrating (water-binding properties) + Wound healing (promotes microcirculation)

🤔Hmm Ingredients:

Cetearyl Alcohol: emollient, viscosity controlling, emulsifying, surfactant/cleansing, emulsion stabilizing [not drying alcohol]

+WHAT DOES THE Pyunkang Yul Nutrition Cream DO?

Points taken from the Pyunkang Yul website: I translated everything from Korean, using an app, but basically the claims boil up to these points:
*Suitable for dry and combination skin

1.Deep moisture and nutrition get delivered deep into the skin: I have combination skin that is acne-prone, oily, and normal, depending on the area. For me, this cream delivered the perfect balance of moisture and nutrition, it didn’t feel heavy on the skin, got absorbed, and almost barely left any stickiness behind. I never felt the need to reapply it during the day, and even during the hot humid months of Beirut, it didn’t feel like too much on my skin (as long as I didn’t over-apply it). I’ve used hydrating products under it and it enhanced them and kept the hydration in my skin for longer periods of time - as good moisturizers do. That being said, if you have very dry skin, I don’t feel like this is the most moisturizing cream out there, the great thing with it is that you can layer it - but keep in mind that the more you layer, the stickier it gets - which would enhance its moisturizing capacity, but something thicker like the Summer Friday Jet Lag Mask could be more suited for you. If, however, you’re intent on buying the Pyunkang Yul one, make sure to start with a good rich hydrating product like the Skinfood Royal Honey Propolis Enrich Essence which I often recommend for dry skin. As for the nutrition part, this contains Astragalus Membranaceus (Huang Qi) Extract as the first ingredient (hence present in the highest concentration) as well as Shea Butter in the upper section of the list, both have scientific data supporting claims of them being moisturizing and nourishing to the skin, so the product is definitely nutritious.

2.Isoflavonoid of Astragalus extract works deep into the skin to make it healthier and improve elasticity: Astragalus Membranaceus extract has been shown to stimulate the collagen synthesis pathway in some studies. However, skin elasticity is mainly maintained by Elastin, whenever a claim is made when it comes to it, I like to reiterate something I said in a previous post: ‘‘we need to understand what causes the skin to lose its firmness and ‘resilience’: As you get older, your skin declines in elasticity due to slower tissue regeneration, lower elastin (elastic protein) levels and an increase in production of elastase (the enzyme that degrades elastin), UV exposure also reduces the functionality of the elastic fiber network, furthermore, a decrease in collagen production, and of facial tissue also contribute to more saggy skin’’. Now, one of the main properties of Astragalus Membranaceus extract is that it is Photoprotective, and as you can see from what I’ve mentioned above, UV exposure is a big culprit when it comes to degrading elasticity. Hence, it could be stated that this nutrition cream helps to maintain skin elasticity since it protects it against the adverse effect of UV rays, but the cream itself will not make saggy skin more elastic, if that is one of your concern, you need to look for products that have ingredients that promote Elastin production pathways or downregulate Elastaze activity - which this one does not have.

3.Vitality goes up for darkened and dull skin: The Pyunkang Yul Nutrition Cream definitely gives me a subtle glow, and one of the reasons that make me enjoy it so much is that it always ends up making me look healthy and more awake. However, there’s some mention of this influencing darkened skin (hyperpigmentation), for this to be accurate, the product would need ingredients that target melanin (skin pigment) production or at least Tyrosinase (Enzyme which helps in the production of Melanin), and there are none in this cream. I also haven’t noticed any change in my hyperpigmentation and acne scars.

4.Minimal ingredients list eliminates unnecessary chemical components that minimize skin irritation: I’ve tried many Pyukang Yul products in the past and looking at the Nutrition cream’s ingredient list, I don’t feel like the Pyunkang Yul Nutrition Cream is as minimal as other ones. Take the Pyunkang Yul Balancing Gel as an example, it’s composed of exactly 7 ingredients in comparison to this one’s 21 - which is probably one of the longest ingredient lists that Pyunkang Yul has. This cream also contains Parkii (Shea) Butter, Beeswax, and Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, which aren’t the most sensitive/acne skin-friendly ingredients. I personally did not experience any bad reaction to this cream, and actually quite enjoyed using it, but I would not qualify it as a ‘minimal ingredient list’. If you have very sensitive skin, try the 9ml mini version of this cream first (3.5$) if you really want to, otherwise, stick to products whose ingredients you know won’t irritate you.

A small amount goes a long way and I’ve put more than I’d usually use do just to show you that even with this much, the cream still gets absorbed to a semi-matte finish (pictures are about 15 minutes apart). I think from the picture, you can kind of see what I mentioned above: this product just gives a healthier look to my skin.

This cream is part of Pyunkang Yul’s basic line, so it won’t revolutionize your skincare game, and apart from good moisture and nutrition, and a bit of a preventative anti-aging effect, you won’t notice any difference in your skin. The point of a moisturizer is to seal in your skin’s hydration and anything else you might put on it (serums, essences,…) to keep hydration from evaporating. This cream does that, and it achieves it with pretty good ingredients. Particularly: if you’re someone who layers on different products, you’ll want your moisturizer to be more simple because it’s doubtable whether a complex ingredient-rich moisturizer with lots of claim and properties could even penetrate that deep into your skin to actually achieve any of its wild claims.

Personally, I really enjoyed using this cream, and it became one of my favorite ones to use. I go back to it whenever I feel like my skin has badly reacted with another product and I am in need of moisture.

But keep in mind that I’m not someone who’s a big fan of moisturizers, and also for the reason stated above about me being skeptical of whether they could penetrate beneath other layers of products, I usually enjoy simpler ones.

If you have combination or normal skin, chances are you’ll enjoy the Pyunkang Yul Nutrition Cream. if you have dry skin: if it’s on the really dryer side of things, you’ll probably prefer something richer or you’ll need to layer hydrating products beneath it. For acne-prone skin that is currently active, I don’t think you should be using a product which doesn’t have ingredients that target your acne (check this post out instead: [10] Anti-Acne products that actually work + A Skincare routine), but if you have acneic skin that is extremely dry and using a hydrating serum is not enough, you could try this one, as it is a safer bet than other moisturizers that could further trigger your acne. If your acne is not currently active, depending on your skin type, this shouldn’t break you out. If you have sensitive skin, it really depends on how sensitive your skin is, but I wouldn’t personally recommend this Nutrition cream to you, using the Balancing Gel of the same line is a safer alternative since it contains fewer ingredients.

+benefits

  1. Gets absorbed very easily

  2. Great for layering

  3. Doesn’t leave a sticky feeling behind

  4. Moisturizing and nourishing

  5. Good Price/Quality ratio

-CONS

  1. Probably not moisturizing enough for dry skin

💊Score: 4.0/5 --- I immensely enjoyed using this cream, as it’s moisturizing, nourishing, and preventative from an anti-aging point of view. However, the texture might not be for everyone (if you prefer gels for example), and although it is advertised towards dry skin, I don’t think it’s moisturizing enough if you have really dry skin,
