[REVIEW] Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream (Before and After)

[REVIEW] Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream (Before and After)

I bought a routine set from Wishtrend a while back and got the midnight blue calming cream with it. I used it once or twice, taught that it was ridiculous that such a small container would serve as a moisturizer, and just left it at that. A couple of weeks ago, I went to buy some plants with my boss (unnecessary information, but bear with me). There was an adorable cat there, fun fact about me: I am incredibly allergic to cats, as in, I start getting asthma, and intense red splotches, and sometimes my airways get constricted. The point is, the cat was cute. I like cute cats, I petted the thing, and my skin started acting out. When this happens, I usually don’t do anything until the allergic reaction reaches my airways, and this time it didn’t, so I just kept chilling with a giant red splotch on my cheek. The patch was irritating, burning, and 30 minutes into it, it wasn’t fading away. I started looking at my skincare items, trying to find something that would appease the pain and burning, and I came across this cream. I was like, ‘‘meh, let’s try it’’, and try it I did.

🥣In-Depth Details Of Interesting Ingredients:

Sodium Hyaluronate : hydrating + wound healing

Centella Asiatica Extract : wound healing + hypertrophic scar healing properties + promotes collagen production

Butyrospermum Parkii Butter : Potent moisturizer

Argania spinosa Kernel Oil : antioxidant + hydrating + anti-flaking agent (dry patches)

Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil : anti-inflammatory + anti-microbial

Portulaca Oleracea Extract: Antioxidant (high amounts of Vitamins A and C) + Wound-healing (Decreases surface area of the wound and increases tensile strength to ‘seal’ wound) + Anti-inflammatory (diminishes inflammatory response pathway)

Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract: anti-bacterial  + anti-inflammatory + wound healing

Ceramide NP : ‘‘This lipid prevents the epidermis, or the top layer of the skin, from losing moisture. When people experience dry skin, it is because of a loss of ceramides in the skin, which can also cause itching, flaking, peeling, and scaling.’’

Tocopheryl Acetate: Most commonly used form of Vitamin E (Most abundant antioxidant found in human skin, works as a photoprotective agent + Anti-inflamatory ). Popular culture suggest that it also helps in wound healing but this it not adequately backed up by research.

Morus Alba Root Extract: anti-microbial + anti-inflammatory

Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Extract: Photoprotective

Guaiazulene : Anti-microbial/Anti-bacterial + anti-inflammatory (gives the cream it’s blue color as it is a derivative of Azulene, the blue colored constituent of chamomile oil)

Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 : Works as a muscle contraction blocker which ultimately reduces the appearance of fine line and wrinkles due to facial expression. However, it’s not an ingredient meant to be used on sensitive or sensitized (due to sun damage for example) skin which makes it a weird addition to the midnight blue calming cream.

Acetyl Glutamine: Anti-Hyperpigmentation (Inhibits melanin synthesis and tyrosinase activation) + Maintains a healthy skin barrier (Hydrating + Moisturizing + ‘‘normalization of stratum corneum exfoliation’’) + Wound Healing ( Precursor of Hyaluronic Acid)

SH-Oligopeptide-1 to 11: Epidermal Growth Factors, which basically are cellular signal molecules that can stimulate cell growth, proliferation, healing and/or differentiation.

♦️Controversial Ingredients:

Cetyl Alcohol: emollient + emulsifying + viscosity controlling + surfactant/cleansing +emulsion stabilising [A so-called fatty, the non-drying kind]

+what does the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream do?

From Klair’s official website: ‘‘Recommended for: Those with oily, acne-prone and sensitive skin to soothe redness and calm sensitivity from sun exposure. + Those in need of a spot treatment for irritated skin’’

1.Calming & Soothing: Yes, this cream is extremely calming & soothing. As mentioned in the intro, I used this because of a red, burning irritation on my cheek, and it calmed it in a minute. The color was still there, but the burning, itchy sensation completely disappeared, which is crazy. A good portion of the ingredients is anti-inflammatory and wound-healing, which aids with irritation and promotes a healthy skin barrier. [UPDATE 2021] One friend of mine had eczema on his nose and cheek, I gave him the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream to try out, and I'm happy to report that it got his eczema under control, and it completely went away. Keep in mind that his condition was mild, so you might not experience the same result, but this just adds to prove to this claim.

2.For irritation & Redness: Again, absolutely yes, the redness of my cheeks went away after 15 minutes - it would usually last a couple of hours with my allergies. I have also tried this with an unfortunate sunburn, and it helped heal it very quickly without my skin peeling off. One thing that I wondered is if this would help acne. What I found is that it generally didn't except for my one-pimple that comes on during my period. Otherwise, the acne was left the same in my experience - or it barely made a difference. (for acne-related products that I recommend, check out this post instead: [10] Anti-Acne products that actually work + A Skincare routine)

3.Good for all skin types: I have acne-prone skin and an oily T zone and have not experienced any irritation or acne-triggering from using this product. I applied it on some of my forehead bumps and one active pimple I head on my jaw just to see if it would do anything and It did not further irritate them (overnight), and some of the tiny bumps (not acne) were less red when I woke up. So ingredient-wise, the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream should technically be okay to use on all skin types, but do a patch test just to be sure.

** I have a lot of guy friends who get acne after shaving and I’ve seen a lot of reviews online suggesting that this might work to calm down skin after shaving as to avoid this result. If you’re a guy reading this or you know a guy (or girl, who’s judging) which suffers from this, I would recommend trying this out.

Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream (Before and After)

An important thing to note is that this blue cream is not meant to be used as a moisturizer. It's a soothing cream, and you only need to apply a thin layer of it whenever you need it.

If you're someone who doesn't suffer from irritated/ inflamed skin problems and who doesn't get sunburnt, you don't need this product. It won't add anything to your routine. The amount of moisturizing and anti-aging benefits that you get from it can be found in other products in much greater quality and quantity (Check out the SkinCeuticals Blemish + Age Defense Serum or the SKIN&LAB Red Serum instead). But if you do have the problems mentioned above, then, by all means, try this. I truly recommend it. I always get random red, irritated patches on my skin, and I feel like sunburns always have a high probability of randomly surprising you. I've used aloe in the past, but this is much more effective.

Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream

+BENEFITS:

  1. Calms down most irritation/inflammation

  2. A little goes a long way

  3. Rapid results

  4. Has a high chance of working with eczema or allergic skins

  5. Great ingredient list

-CONS:

  1. I feel like this could be priced down by a couple of dollars.

🥣🥣🥣🥣Score: 4.0/5 --- This works so well when you’re dealing with irritation, but if you don’t, it just sits in your cabinet waiting for the day you’ll need it to soothe down your skin which is why it gets a 4.0. It’s like Advil for your skin, and I would give Advil a 4.0 too because it’s not something that I use every day, but when I need it, it has my back.
