👄In-Depth Details Of Interesting Ingredients:

Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil: 🔴[Not enough research] ‘‘It has been shown to enhance the transdermal penetration of other chemicals and to be a UV light absorber.’’

Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil: Nourishing (Vitamins A, E and D. Oleic, Linoleic and Palmitic Acid) + Highly Moisturizing + Antioxidant

Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil: Emollient (Mildly occlusive) + Hydrating

Prunus Armeniaca Kernel Oil (Apricot): Hydration (Fatty Acids) + Anti-inflammatory (Linoleic acid) + Source of Vitamin E

Pearl Extract: 🔴[Not enough research] But a couple one study on human skin points to it being a Moisturizer + Antioxidant + Anti hyperpigmentation (Prevents activation of tyrosinase). And one study conducted on a wound-healing model pointed to it helping with wound healing (Stimulate fibroblast mitosis and collagen deposition)

Tocopherol: Vitamin E (The most abundant antioxidant found in human skin, works as a photoprotective agent + Anti-inflammatory ). Popular culture suggests that it also helps in wound healing but this is not adequately backed up by research.

+how to use the KLAVUU Nourishing Care Lip Sleeping Pack

giphy 7.GIF

1. Apply a proper amount on lips before sleep

2.Rinse off with water the next morning

Quick exfoliation : Before makeup, apply a moderate amount and then wipe off after 10 minutes to quickly smooth lips. *(this doesn’t work)

+what does the KLAVUU Nourishing Care Lip Sleeping Pack do?

[Claims put together from e-pamphlet]

1.Soft balm formula leaves your lips feeling smooth: If your lips are chronically dry and chapped and basically dead, this product isn’t really going to smooth them out. If they are just a bit chapped, or you’re just looking for an ‘every day’ moderately hydrating and moisturizing lip product, you’ll probably like this. For me, the Klavuu lip mask was nowhere near smoothing enough for my lips and I didn’t really see a big difference in smoothness. I saw the same result that I would have gotten from putting on any average good chapsticks. Furthermore, when I tried using this as a ‘quick exfoliating’ product as they advertised on their e-pamphlet, letting it sit on my lips for 10 minutes and then removing it, what I was left with was a thin layer of the product still on my lips (even after whipping it with a tissue), that felt slightly tacky and uncomfortable and nowhere near the silky smooth texture, I wanted. I’m pointing this out because when I use the Laneige lip sleeping mask, the texture of the product itself is softer (it even glides more easily), so even though it also leaves a thin layer of film behind, the layer isn’t annoying because it literally makes your lips smoother.

2.Forms a protective layer on the skin to lock in moisture: It does, but again, I don’t really see the difference between the KLAVUU Nourishing Care Lip Sleeping Pack and any other average lip balm on the market. As for the durability of the layer, personally, it stays for a maximum of about 3 hours on my lips. When I use it before going to sleep, I wake up the next morning with all of it gone. Now I don’t know what I do in my sleep, but I’m pretty sure I don’t really move around a lot, and to compare it to the Laneige mask again, this one actually doesn’t budge from my lips and stays on as long as I don’t wipe it off, even if it’s for the entire day or night.

3.Phyto Oil complex: contains avocado oil (restores skin elasticity/promotes radiance), sweet almond oil (anti-aging), and apricot kernel oil (refining/exfoliation) to moisturize lips while leaving it supple: Phyto oil is just a fancy name to give to the combination of oils present in this mask. What I want to shed light on are the properties given to each particular oil. Avocado oil is an amazing oil, it is very nourishing and moisturizing, but for something to actively ‘restore skin elasticity, it would need to either stimulate elastin production or downregulate elastase (the enzyme that breaks down elastin), and there is no research to back this up for this oil. As for the sweet almond oil, it doesn’t have enough studies/clinical trials to prove any anti-aging benefits, we know for a fact that’s it’s a good emollient, and it moisturizing and hydrating your skin only makes it ‘‘consequently anti-aging’’, which basically means that because it moisturizer/hydrates, it keeps your skin healthy, and healthy skin ages less rapidly (keep in mind that all good skin ingredients do this and have this property). As for the apricot kernel oil, the apricot kernel can be found in a lot of physical exfoliating products, because the kernel is usually ground and micronized as to transform it into an abrasive agent when rubbed on the skin, the oil of the kernel, however, does not possess this property. Apricot kernel isn’t an enzymatic or chemical exfoliant, it doesn’t have any acids (except for fatty acids, which are emollients), so the only way it can be counted as an exfoliator is if the kernel is ground, mentioning that the kernel oil has ‘refining/exfoliating’ properties is inaccurate and false. As for the final part of this claim where they say that your lips will be moisturized and supple, again: if you have normal lips or lips that just need a bit of moisturizing, yes this will be adequate moisturization for you. But if your lips are very chapped, dry, and basically dead, this will definitely not be enough for you.

Now let’s take a moment to compare this to the Laneige lip Sleeping Mask more because a lot of people seem to buy the Klavuu Nourishing Care Lip Sleeping Pack looking for a Laneige dupe, or to try it out because they didn’t like the Laneige one. Some people rave about the Laneige mask and hate the Klavuu one, some people feel the opposite way, I’m here to hopefully settle the argument by saying this: BOTH products are actually good, but they’re good depending on what your expectations are and how badly chapped your lips are. Let me explain:

If you have chronically extremely dry chapped lips (like me), and you’ve tried a plethora of lip moisturizing products (like me), and you find your lips are still dry and chapped (like me), then you will probably prefer the Laneige mask. The Laneige formula is much more occlusive than the Klavuu one, and its active ingredients lists focus on ingredients with ‘wound healing’ properties (see the in-depth ingredients list here) rather than nourishing and hydrating ones found in the Klavuu pack.

The Laneige mask is more sticky and gooey (not uncomfortably so for me), and it’s way harder to remove than the Klavuu one, it also lasts all night long and I always wake up with all of the product still on my lips. As for the Klavuu mask, it feels nourishing and glides well on the lips, it has a much thinner consistency, a less sticky texture, and rubs off easily, so people who hate the texture of vaseline, for example, will probably like this pack. It’s also gooier but less shiny than the Laneige mask. I personally do see some benefits when using it, but the benefits aren’t enough for me. Another thing to point out is that some people with very dry chapped lips need to apply the product on the skin around their mouth too, the Laneige texture glides on easily there while the Klavuu one produces some drag and doesn’t slide off as easily on skin that isn’t lip skin.

Basically what I’m saying is: if your lips are normal/moderately dry, and if you don’t enjoy really occlusive products, you will enjoy the KLAVUU Nourishing Care Lip Sleeping Pack, but if your lips are basically dead and need some extra love and care, the Laneige one is a way better choice because it’s targeted to you and you’ll enjoy the thickness of the product. It all comes down to texture with these 2, and the kind of texture and occlusivity you prefer and are comfortable with will dictate what product you’ll enjoy the most. So would I recommend this? it depends on what kind of product you’re looking for. If you have normal/moderately dry lips, the Klavuu one is probably a better choice since it’s less expensive, I prefer it to ‘everyday lip balms’ because the application process feels more luxurious and the texture is a bit more enjoyable than that of your everyday vaseline or chapstick products.

As for the Before and After pictures above, they are one night apart, and as you can see the top portion of my lips was slightly irritated and dry, the next day it was still a bit irritating, but better - The Laneige mask would have completely healed it in comparison.

+BENEFITS:

  1. Smells great (vanilla)

  2. Hydrates

  3. Gives a nice shine

  4. Affordable

-CONS:

  1. Doesn’t heal my chapped lip

  2. Not occlusive enough for me or people with very dry/chapped lips

  3. Doesn’t stay on for a very long period of time

🍦Score: 2.5/5 --- The score is based on my personal experience with the product as a person with chronically dry lips, this is simply a product that doesn’t heal, moisturize, or hydrate my lips enough. But if yours are more on the normal side, you’ll enjoy it way more than I did.
