+INGREDIENTS

Ingredients of the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel For Oily Skin: Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate (Cleansing + Emulsifying), Peg-8 (Moisturizer + Solvent), Coco-Betaine (Cleansing + Viscosity Control), Hexylene Glycol (Solvent + Emulsifying + Perfuming + Cleansing), Sodium Chloride (Viscosity Control), Peg-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate (Emulsifying), Zinc Pca, Sodium Hydroxide (Ph Buffer), Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate (Preservative), Phenoxyethanol (Preservative), Caprylyl Glycol (Moisturizer + Emollient + Deodorant), Parfum/Fragrance

🌀In-Depth Details Of Interesting Ingredients:

Zinc Pca: Anti-Acne (Normalize sebum production + Antibacterial) + Moisturizing + Potentially Anti-aging (Suppreses Uva-induced collagen destruction + Increases expression of type 1 collagen), but more research is needed as this was only proven in one study, in vitro

Citric Acid: Anti-aging (AHA + promotes collagen production)

🤔Hmmm:

Parfum/Fragrance: A lot of people assimilate alcohol and fragrances in skincare to dehydration and irritation. I would recommend that you watch this video: “Is Alcohol Safe in Skincare Products?” (by Liah Yoo, who worked at Korea's largest beauty company, AmorePacific and now also has her own brand: KraveBeauty) and consult the links provided in the info box which refer to published scientific studies and articles. The main point is: yes, alcohol and fragrance can be very stripping and irritating to the skin, but it all depends on how they are used and combined in the final formulation (their ratio, the reactions they have with other ingredients, etc…), I have sensitive skin but my skin did not react negatively to the blue mask in any way. Of course, if you’re unsure, a patch test is always recommended.

+how to use the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel For Oily Skin

1.Wet face with lukewarm water and apply a small amount of gel

2. Massage the skin gently to form a rich lather

3.Rinse thoroughly with water

+what does the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel For Oily Skin do?

1.Facial wash for oily skin removes excess oil: Yes. Not only does this remove excess oil on your face, it also helps in controlling your oil production, you won’t end up with dramatically mattified skin, but it’s a good add-on to an oil-control skincare routine. I have an oily T-zone and I can see the difference whenever I stop using this: my face starts to become oilier. Now my cleanser of choice for oily skin is the Shiseido Senka Perfect Whip Cleansing Foam, but as I mentioned in my in-depth review, it’s a pretty powerful product and unless you have very oily skin, or you live in a very humid climate, you’re better off using something milder. I can use La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel in any climate and never feel like it’s too strong for my skin.

2.Cleanses without overdrying: Definitely not an overdrying product, but it does dry your skin a bit since it’s formulated for oily skin. If you have oily skin, this is not overdrying at all, if you have normal skin, it’s a bit drying, and if you have dry skin… I mean.. don't try this obviously.

3.Suitable for sensitive skin: The whole point of a cleanser is to strip your face of dirt and unwanted sebum, if a facewash is targeted for oily skin, it’s formulated to be even more stripping, so if you have oily and sensitive skin, you’re in for a ride. But, this cleanser is actually suitable for sensitive oily skin, it has been dermatologically tested, allergy tested, tested on acne-prone skin (non-comedogenicity test), and is free of any soap and alcohol. The only extremely annoying and illogical thing is that it contains fragrance, and since the ingredient is just written as ‘parfum’ you can’t really know what it’s composed of.

This removes most makeup, except for waterproof ones (like the lip tint that’s left), and leaves the skin feeling clean. The product foams up a bit, and the texture easily glides across the skin without pulling at anything while cleansing.

I have combination, acne-prone skin and have never experienced any breakouts due to this Purifying Foaming Gel. I don’t think it helped in controlling my acne at any point, but it did cleanse my skin year-round, no matter the climate or its condition. It’s a product I like to use when I feel like my skin is acting out or has been sensitized, and I always have a couple of bottles in my house. Now, this doesn’t mean that you can just walk out of your house and carry on with your life after cleansing your face, you still need to hydrate it, but the cleanser won’t leave you with an uncomfortable feeling.

That being said, this isn’t a cleanser that I’d recommend to anyone: if you have dry skin, do not buy this, it’s not formulated for you, and if you have normal skin, you could use this as it’s mild enough, but I still think you’d be better off using something more basic like the COSRX Low Ph Good Morning Gel Cleanser. If you have oily skin, especially if it’s sensitive, this is definitely a product you might want to try, and I would personally recommend it.

+BENEFITS:

  1. Doesn’t strip the skin

  2. Removes most makeup, unless very heavy or waterproof

  3. Suitable for sensitive skin

  4. Good quality/price/quantity ratio

-CONS

  1. Presence of Fragrance while this is marketed for sensitive skin

🛁Score: 4.0/5 La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel For Oily Skin is a good cleanser that you can even use during dryer winter months, it won’t strip your skin from essential hydrating factors, and the chances of it irritating you are pretty low. Moreover, you get a lot of products for the price. The only issue is the presence of fragrance since this is marketed for sensitive skin, which is why it won’t get a higher score.
