🌞In-Depth Details Of Interesting Ingredients:
Hydrogenated Olive Oil Lauryl Esters: Emollient + Antioxidant
Glycerine: Widely used as a quality Hydrator (occurs naturally in skin and its chemical structure attracts water). You can find this ingredient in most good skin replenishing products.
Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract (Green tea): Antioxidant (Polyphenol) + Anti-inflammatory (Polyphenol) + Antimicrobial (Catechins)
Ascorbic Acid: A form of Vitamin C that easily oxidizes when exposed to air or the sun, doesn’t really make any sense for this to be here except for marketing purposes.
Coptis Japonica Extract: Anti-inflammatory (Berberine compound interferes in some expression pathway of acne-stimulated cells + interferes with pro-inflammation release of certain skin compound)
Gardenia florida fruit extract: Not enough clinical data to support any claim, and it’s typically used as a fragrance in cosmetics
Allantoin: Moisturizing (Emollient: provides a layer of protection to help prevent water loss)
Sodium Hyaluronate : Hydrating (water binding properties) + Wound healing (promotes micro circulation)Panthenol: Moisturizing (penetrates deep into the layers and gets converted into Pantothenic Acid (B5)) + Anti Acne (B5) + Wound healing (B5)
🍺Alcohols:
Cetearyl Alcohol + Cetyl Alcohol + Stearyl Alcohol: (these are all fatty alcohols (non-drying), which are wiledly considered ‘‘good’’ alcohols in skincare and act as Emollient + Emulsifier)
[Vita Duo Cream Joan Night]: Water, Dipropylene Glycol (Solvent), Cyclopentasiloxane (Emollient + Solvent), Glycerin, Cyclohexasiloxane (Emollient + Solvent), 1,2-Hexanediol (Solvent), Dimethicone (Emollient), Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate (Emulsifying), Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Cyanocobalamin, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate (Emollient), Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/Vp Copolymer (Viscosity Control), Glyceryl Stearate SE (Emulsifying), Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate (Emollient + Emulsifying), Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Tauratecopolymer (Viscosity Control + Emulsion Stabilizing), Polyacrylate-13 (Thickener-Emulsifier trio), Polyisobutene (Thickener-Emulsifier trio), Ethylhexylglycerin, Disodium EDTA (Chelating), Polysorbate 20 (Thickener-Emulsifier trio), Sorbitan Isostearate (Emulsifying), Gardenia Florida Fruit Extract, Maltodextrin (Absorbent)
🌚In-Depth Details Of Interesting Ingredients:
Glycerine: Widely used as a quality Hydrator (occurs naturally in skin and its chemical structure attracts water). You can find this ingredient in most good skin replenishing products.
Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil : Mostly acts as perfuming agents, some recent study suggest possible skin calming benefits, but this is dependent on people as some are actually irritated by the oil (if present in abundant quantity)
Tocopheryl Acetate: Most commonly used form of Vitamin E (Most abundant antioxidant found in human skin, works as a photoprotective agent + Anti-inflammatory ). Popular culture suggest that it also helps in wound healing but this it not adequately backed up by research.
Cyanocobalamin (Human-made form of vitamin B12): Some studies seem to suggest it’s a good treatment for eczema or and psoriasis but are still in the early stages and no significant result has been obtained yet.
Gardenia florida fruit extract: Not enough clinical data to support any claim, and it’s typically used as a fragrance in cosmetics
🤔Hmmmmm Ingredients (Contained in both creams):
Ethylhexylglycerin : I have written about this ingredient extensively in my KYLIESKIN Eyecream review, basically it’s a preservative and some research has shown that it can be irritating to the eye area which tends to be more sensitive than the rest of your skin (as it was in my case). However, you won’t be putting this cream anywhere near your eye to begin with and should not experience any sensitization, if you have very sensitive skin and you’re worried about that, do a patch test, but considering that it’s one of the very last ingredients on the list, I wouldn’t be worried.
+how to use the Neogen Vita Duo Cream Joan Day Joan Night
+what does the Neogen Vita Duo Cream Joan Day Joan Night do?
1.Green Tea and Vitamin C: Green tea is a great ingredient with lots of research-based benefits to back up the claims usually associated with it (see above list). I did notice some redness go away as I was using this cream, but did not experience any particular brightening effect. As for the Vitamin C, it’s written as ‘Ascorbic Acid’ on the list, this is a form that becomes unstable and oxidizes when exposed to air or light, so basically it won’t do much… or anything really. There’s an interesting article by OUMERE which states that Vitamin C serums are bad for you, while I disagree because it depends on the formulation and mode of delivery and stabilization of the molecule, it is worth checking out to understand the potential of Vitamin C skin oxidation: THE 3 REASONS WHY VITAMIN C SERUMS ARE BAD FOR YOUR SKIN. I can’t say whether the NEOGEN Vita Duo Cream Joan Day Joan Night would actually oxidize your skin as I don’t know about the concentration used here, but my bet would be no, even if the molecule is oxidized, there are antioxidants in the formulation that can protect against this. Going back to the claims, my skin was protected from the outer environment since the day cream is thick (but light) so there’s an extra layer between you and the world so yes, but when it comes to improving skin tone and getting a clearer and brighter skin, I have a lot of acne marks and hyperpigmentation and after a month of regular use this did almost nothing to them.
2.Lavender and Vitamin E: Essential oils are a controversy, some people like them, others say they’re the devil, I personally think that it depends on their concentration and how they are incorporated in the formula. I haven’t experienced any adverse effect as far as I can tell, but there are studies that suggest that you can become sensitized to them in the long run, I’d recommend reading this blog post [Are Essential Oils in Skin Care Harmful or Helpful?] by The Klog for more info. People with sensitive skin or active acne should definitely steer clear of them. In her video when she introduced the night cream Joan said that she put lavender oil in there to help with sleep, but if anyone actually needs that much help with sleep, you could just buy a separate lavender oil mister or whatever and use that instead. The point is, lots of products I’ve used in the past contain this oil and I’ve always said to stay clear of them if you have easily irritable/sensitive/acneic skin. For the claims associated with this point, your skin will most definitely not become less stressed nor will it become magically enhanced, the opposite might actually happen.
3.Joan Day Vita Cream: Yes, it does get absorbed very quickly, your skin does feel moisturized, not particularly fresh, however. It will definitely not give you healthy perfect skin, this is nowhere near a miracle product and isn’t much innovative. The hydration is long-lasting in my case, but I don’t really have dry skin, to begin with. The point is, this isn’t anything special, it’s a cream, an okay cream, but that’s it.
4.Joan Night Vita Cream: I love the texture of this gel-cream, but apart from it being bouncy and hydrating, It did absolutely nothing significant to my skin. My skin did not get irritated, the texture is nice, but the ingredients are very bland and I find it extremely unnecessary to put lavender oil, especially so high up on the list (concentration wise there’s more lavender oil than vitamin E!).
I wanted to love this so much because the concept of having a day and night cream in one jar is awesome, and not a lot of brands I know about are doing this. But, let’s be honest, you’ll probably want to pass on purchasing this. I really enjoyed the day cream and will continue on using it, but although the texture of the night cream is extremely pleasant I’ll pass on using something that might potentially irritate my skin (as I just got over a huge acne breakout, I wouldn’t want to trigger it again).
The Neogen Vita Duo Cream Joan Day Joan Nightt has extremely positive reviews on most platforms I saw, I think this is because the influence behind the product is a big one (Joan Kim), her main focus is on skincare, and the product isn’t horrendous: it’s a cream and it will do what creams do, it’s just that with today’s range of products and potency, why would anyone spend 32$ for a very average product? Moreover, only the day cream is actually worth anything when it comes to the potency of ingredients in the long run. This is nothing against the influencer herself I actually quite like her and her vlogs, but this is a skincare product review not a review on a person.
If you’re bent on trying it out for yourself, I would only recommend this product for normal or a bit oilier skins that aren’t acneic, and if you do have acne, only use the day cream or at least do a patch test for the night one. If you have really dry or more mature skin, you probably won’t really get anything from the product, except maybe if you layer it on. I personally would not recommend it, to begin with, it’s an okay product but not worth the quality to price ratio nor the results.
Perhaps if the day cream was sold separately and at a lower price, I would have bought it again.
+benefits:
Cool 2 in 1 concept
Nice texture and gets absorbed easily
-CONS:
Contains Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil that might be sensitizing to some people.
Night cream does nothing
Bad quality to price ratio
🍃 Score: Night cream: 2.0/5 Day cream: 3.0/5--- I like my cream simples, but this is just too meh, I’m kind of disappointed by Neogen as they’re really known for being innovative and hightech in the skincare industry and this is just a cream, with some really boring low concentration ingredients.
